Recovery Week - The one thing I wish I had done was monitor my resting heart rate throughout the 10 day cycle to see if it fluctuated at all. I have had strange things happen during marathon training. For instance, my last marathon training did one "over distance" run of 28 miles. I could not get to sleep that night because my heart was beating so hard (not fast, just hard) that my head was literally bouncing on my pillow. It really freaked me out. I didn't have anything weird like that happen during the 10 day cycle except for the weird dreams and sleep cycles. So here's how the recovery week went:

Monday: short plyometrics session and barely made it through the thing. TOTALLY wiped.

Tuesday: very light day short brick

Wednesday: First day of feeling any energy. I felt totally wiped from Monday morning until mid-morning Wednesday. Threshold testing really wipes me out.

Friday: Swim 1000yd TT 16:06. About 1min faster than last period and felt much easier than last TT.

Saturday: Bike 12.5mi TT 31:04. About three minutes faster than last period, pushing a bigger gear and harder, but HR LT slightly lower

Sunday: I WILL NEVER EAT CHEESE AGAIN!!! We made this new chili recipe Saturday night that had some, but not much, cheese in it. 20 minutes after I ate, it felt like a brick lodged in my stomach. Took me forever to get warmed up for my 4mi TT. Felt like utter crap for 1hr. Started my TT and immediately felt better. Again, several minutes faster than last period but LT seems to be a beats lower.

Wrap-up: I don't know where the gains came from - 10 day cycle or more cumulative results from several hard months of base training. I started Build 1 this week with a completely lethal Muscular Endurance brick on Tuesday. That freaking thing has had me BEAT for over 36 hours now. I slogged through a recovery LSD run this morning that seemed like would never end. I think the last time I moved that slow was at the end of the 2001 Portland Marathon with legs in total cramping seizures. Ugh.
