- Space Camp -

Well when we first arrived in PalestineTexas they had us camped out in a field. That changed soon after we got 2 inches of rain in the matter of a few hours. East Texas is not a dry desert. There are swamps and thick jungly forests here.

Next they put us in a Christian retreat camp. That worked out OK but boy was it cramped in there with 20 people to a cabin.

Finally they got it all together and found a big warehouse. Not just big but huge. 6 acres of warehouse where we could set up our tents and spread out our sleeping bags on the nice dry concrete. Cramped, maybe but hey it kept us out of the torrential downpours common in Texas this time of year.

The slides in this series show our camps in Palestine where we stayed .

Camped outside

Here we are camped out in the great outdoors. This is our first morning in camp and it has just started to rain. And it ended up raining all day. And into the night. And the next day

The dining hall

Here is our dining hall. This is during the torrential downpour that lasted all day, and yes that is 6 inches of mud flowing down the aisle in the tent

Under Cover

Here we are under cover waiting for them to decide what they are going to do with us. We waited for hours while they discussed where they were going to put us up.

The Christian Retreat

This is our room at the Christian retreat. There were ten of us crammed in here. The snoring got pretty loud in here one night and there wasn't much ventilation so we were pretty glad to leave here.

Our new home

Ahhh luxury at last. Here we are tucked into our own little corner of the warehouse with 800 of our closest friends.

Charles Precourt presentation

Every week they would give us a show with an astronaut speaking to us. It was great. They would give us a little presentation on their job working for NASA. It was a great pep talk.

Relaxing in camp.
There's nothing better than hanging out in your tent in camp.

 Parking lot full of vans.
We had a parking lot packed full of 70 brand new, white Ford 11 passenger vans and they were all the same. When we were in a convoy you could tell NASA was in town

Hanging out the laundry.

Yes it does rain in Texas so yes we did get wet. Here we are in camp hanging out our wet clothes to dry. We were lucky to be inside so we could get things to dry.
