Working at the Site

Working at the site put us where all the action was. We were right there helping out by distributing supplies to all the workers. Or job was to hand out supplies to all the firemen, police and rescue workers working on the "pile". Popular items were hardhats, safety glasses, respirators, sweatshirts, gloves and digging implements. We did the best we could to keep the workers doing what they were there to do.

Getting to work

To get to work we rode the subway. Here I am hangin' out on the subway.

Getting to work

Once off the subway it was a short walk to the site.

The blackened building at the end of the street is WTC building 6.

We arrive at work. This is the view out our front door of Church Supply cache.

The Supply Hut

This is our supply hut. Kind of small but we crammed as much into the shelves as we could. That is our command vehicle which we used to shuttle supplies around the site on. It worked pretty well in Manhattan traffic too.

The Pile at night
The scene out the door at the end of the day, just before we are about to head home on the subway to our Hotel in Times Square. This is a 24 hour operation with the crews working round the clock.

Ten House Supply
After a while they consoidated supply caches into just one. This is the cache they made for us in the Ten House fire station. There's James watching the store.

That is where we lived for 2 weeks while we worked here. The work environment was different and out of this world but we were surrounded by great people who were very friendly and always kept us entertained. When working on forest fires for the Forest Service you always meet special people. This was just another opportunity to meet people from around the country coming together to help the cause.
