Finding A Class

The Reason Why

Knowledge base.  To find the best way to attack Family Research a class can be very helpful.  Classes, seminars, tutoring sessions etc. are all ways to pick the brains of someone who has been doing research for many years.

Meeting People interested in Genealogy.  When you take a class you will meet many other people who are also interested in Genealogy.  The old timers are usually willing/eager to share what they know as well as resources they may have.

Locating A Class

Community College. Begin by looking in the Community Education catalogue from your local community college.  These classes usually are inexpensive and will cover many topics to get you started.

Park and Recreation.  Check the flyer from the local park and recreation department.  These classes will be much the same as the ones from the community college.

Genealogical Society.  After you locate your local genealogical society check for classes.  The Bend Oregon Genealogical Society is offering a series of Computer Classes this winter.

Family History Center.  Many Family History Centers offer classes.  To find the schedule of class at your local center, first locate the center.  These libraries are staffed by volunteers.

Local Public Library.  If your library does not offer classes they will know who to contact.

Chamber of Commerce.  The local chamber keeps a list of who, what, when and where of what is going on in the community.  Call and see what they have.

Local Newspaper.  Check out the community section, the calendar of up-coming events, the want ads etc.
